LEMBAH MERAK HIJAU yang terletak di propinsi Ciat-kang merupakan sebuah lembah subur dengan pemandangan yang indah. Lebih-lebih karena di sebelah timur lembah ini terdapat daerah persawahan yang luas dan pada saat itu padi yang ditanam telah masak menguning hingga kemanapun mata memandang, seolah-olah hamparan permadani emaslah yang kelihatan. Bila angin bertiup, padi-padi masak menguning itu bergoyang melambai-lambai mengalun lemah gemulai.

Dipagi yang cerah ini diantara desau tiupan angin lembah yang segar terdengarlah suara tiupan seruling yang merdu sekali. Barang siapa yang mendengarnya, pastilah akan tertegun dan memasang telinga baik-baik menikmati suara seruling itu. Siapakah gerangan yang meniup seruling tersebut? Tentunya seorang seniman pandai yang dapat menggambarkan keindahan pemandangan alam sekitarnya lewat hembusan napas yang disalurkannya ke dalam lobang seruling.

Tetapi adalah diiuar dugaan karena kenyataannya si peniup seruling bukanlah seorang seniman, bukan pula seorang dewasa. Melainkan seorang anak gembala yang baru berusia tujuh tahun dan duduk di atas punggung seekor kerbau besar tegap berbulu bersih dan berkilat.
